Your Bridal Crown And Tiara or Headpiece Is Waiting

Who says choosing your wedding accessories has to be stressful? Not us! We believe that picking out a bridal tiara or headpiece can be just as much fun as choosing a wedding gown. In fact, it might even be better because you probably won't have an audience throwing their opinions into the ring. For some brides, choosing a tiara or headpiece feels special because it's one of the first accessories they choose on their own. That's not to say you can't shop with your bridesmaids at your side – it's just that shopping for accessories is your time to choose exactly what you want.

Where do I Start?
The first step – and we mean the very first step – is choosing your wedding dress. Without that, it's almost impossible to choose any wedding crowns and tiaras. Why? Because the tall, golden crown that looks so beautiful in pictures might not look as beautiful with your rum pink gown. Your goal should be a coordinated look, and that means matching your accessories to your dress, and not the other way around.
The second step is having at least a rough idea of your wedding day hairstyle. An elegant updo may warrant a very different bridal headpiece than a long, loose style featuring dazzling mermaid curls. Not sure what you should be looking for? Your stylist will be able to tell you what kinds of tiaras and hair accessories go best with which hairstyles.

What style is best for me?

This is a question that only you can answer, but we're happy to give you a little input into your choices!

Traditional tiaras offer the most dramatic look, and work with everything from simple sheath dresses to traditional ball gowns. They're also versatile in that they can be worn with of without a veil – so your options are wide open. We see tiaras paired with updos more often than other hairdos, but tiaras can be worn with almost any kind of bridal hair.

Wedding Headbands are totally on trend. For brides who want to wear their hair down, a headband adds a touch of elegance to loose hair or a side-swept ponytail. Short hair? No problem! A bridal headband is the ideal compromise for brides with hair too short for other accessory options. Hint: Try asymmetrical headbands for a modern look.

Double Headbands do double duty. They can be worn flat on the head as a headband or tilted forward in tiara style. Some can even be wrapped around a bun!

Bridal Combs are a simple headpiece style that can be worn with almost any hairstyle. Some resemble tiaras and are worn similarly, while others are worn at the side of the head or in the back. A comb-veil combination makes having a second look for the reception easy.

Hair pins are also very versatile. They are a great option for any hairstyle, whether formal or tussled, up or down – but especially in structural updos where they can highlight the dimensionality of the style.

How do I choose a tiara?

Finding the right tiara is usually a matter of not only finding one that harmonizes with the color and decorative elements of your wedding gown, but also thinking about the shape of your face. Any tiara should draw attention to your face by framing it, not draw attention away from it. How do you make that happen?

•    Round/Full face: To make your face appear longer, choose a bridal tiara that has a delicate, high peak.
•    Long face: Choose headbands or tiaras with little or no height that extend over your head from one side to the other at an even height.
•    Oval face: Avoid peaked tiaras, and look instead for asymmetrical headpieces that have the most volume at the side of the head.

What is color matching all about?

Your bridal headpiece should be a part of your overall wedding day ensemble. In other words, it should add to the beauty of your gown – not steal the show! The same rules that you follow when choosing bridal jewelry will help you choose the perfect tiara or headband.

WHITE GOWN: Choose a tiara that is silver-tone and has clear rhinestones or white pearls to emphasize the brilliance of your dress.

IVORY GOWN: Choose a tiara that is gold-tone or has ivory pearls to highlight the softness and femininity of your dress.

DIAMOND WHITE: This is a fairly new shade of white that is lighter than off-white but not stark white. Choose either gold, silver tone, or white pearl.

CHAMPAGNE OR DARK IVORY: Choose a gold tone tiara or dark ivory pearls, because these will let the unique color of your dress shine.

What pattern should I choose?

It's so tempting to look at all the gorgeous tiaras or bridal headpieces out there without thinking about colors or your wedding jewelry, but remember that your hair accessories are part of a whole. There's no one perfect pattern for tiaras, but try to match the pattern in the detailing of your gown to the pattern in the tiara. If you have floral pattern in your gown, look for a headpiece with similar detailing. A modern, plain white gown usually looks best with a tiara with straight lines or a geometric pattern. Again, this is all about unity! Your dress and your accessories shouldn't be fighting for attention.

And a few more helpful tips…

•    Match the beading of your dress to the accents in your tiara. If your dress is dripping with pearls, choose a tiara with some or all pearls. If your dress sparkles with crystals, choose a headpiece with crystal accents.
•    A tiara with only Austrian clear crystals (rhinestones) and no pearls will match any gown.
•    A tiara with pearls should match either the pearl accents on the gown, the color of the gown itself, or the pearls in your other wedding jewelry. Most pearl tiaras go great with off-white or ivory gowns, but some pearls are brighter white, so be sure to check the description of the headpiece.
•    Be sure to take a step back and make sure that all the pieces of your bridal ensemble work together and that no one piece overwhelms another. Your guests should be looking at you, not staring at your tiara.
•    Women with short hair look absolutely beautiful wearing tiaras! Pick a lighter, more delicate tiara that won't require lots of pinning to hold it in place or try headband style tiaras with a more petite shape.

Why Does a Bride Wear a Veil?

I’m getting married in a few weeks, and I want to ask about the custom of the bride wearing a veil. I want to do things right, but I’m not particularly turned on by the veil thing. It seems a bit outdated.
There’s a common misconception that the groom covers the bride’s face before the wedding because he has to check that he is marrying the right bride, ostensibly to avoid what happened to our patriarch Jacob, who was tricked into marrying Leah instead of Rachel. But this doesn’t make much sense: After all, the groom covers his bride’s face, and if he were meant to identify her, he should be uncovering her!

Rather, by covering the bride’s face, the groom is making a statement: “As beautiful as you look today, my love for you is not skin-deep. It is not just your eyes that dazzle me; it is your persona, your character, your views on life—the real you. I can cover your sweet face with a veil and marry you because your face is just one level of your true beauty.”

Another reason for the veil: The Torah says that when Moses came down from Mount Sinai, his face was so bright with holiness that no one dared look at him. He had to wear a cathedral length veil whenever he spoke to the people in order to filter the Divine glare. (This is the source for Michelangelo’s depiction of Moses with horns: The words for “beaming” and “horns” have the same letters in Hebrew; an old Greek translation mistakenly rendered this verse, “And Moses had horns.”)

When the bride and groom stand under the chupah, they are in an elevated state, as they are about to unite as one. In the bride, this elevated state is more revealed. She radiates a special holiness; the Divine Presence (Shechinah), the feminine aspect of G‑d, shines through the face of the bride.

This light is so intense that it must be veiled, just as the light that emanated from Moses’ face had to be covered. Holiness needs privacy.

Those moments under the chupah are potent. As your day approaches, make sure to soak in and utilize every holy second.

Beautiful Short and Sweet Wedding Veils

BlushCheek.com is a new wedding website where brides, grooms, family and friends can purchase a stylish and affordable mix of beautifully curated pieces. Designed to make wedding planning all the more inspiring and enjoyable, Idojour offers accessories and apparel for your wedding weekend, complemented by both inspirational and practical content. Rosanna oversees content, among many other things, and makes sure that everything comes together beautifully on the site.
Here, Rosanna discusses how to find the perfect veil.
The wedding veil is one of the oldest wedding traditions, symbolizing modesty, purity, and chastity. In this day and age, however, wearing a veil is not a requirement, which is why it's so much fun to let your style and personality shine when it comes to selecting your veil. But with so many lengths and styles available, how do you know which veil is the right one for you?
guide to bridal veils
Keep in mind the following when shopping for your veil:
► Your veil should complement your look, not compete with it.
► Simple gowns will offset any intricate lace or beadwork on your veil.
► Heavily beaded or laced gowns look best with sheer or transparent fabric veils (silk chiffon, voile, or organza).
► A blusher, a single layer worn over your face during procession, can be added to any veil.

Today, we look some options for brides who prefer short and sweet veils.
Birdcage veils come in many different styles and can bring a vintage feel to your bridal look. The netting can come down to cover either one or both eyes, your nose, your chin, or even your entire face. It's entirely a matter of choice; see what looks and feels good for you.

Flyaway veils are wispy and often multi-layered, with the longest layers falling on the shoulders. These veils are usually less than 20" and are the shortest of the veils that fall behind the head. It’s a great pick for a less formal occasion, and it’s perfect for a bride who wants a simple, more understated veil.
The elbow veil cascades over the shoulders and floats along your upper arms, ending just above the elbow. It can measure anywhere from 28" to 36" in length, and it's a more casual veil alternative. This veil was a favorite of the postwar 1950s.
The fingertip length veil is meant to float around you like a cape, extending to your outstretched fingertips and typically measuring 48”. It was most popular during the late 1940s and early 1950s. It's also a modern Royal favorite — Kate Middleton wore a silk tulle fingertip length veil when she married Prince William.

The History behind the bridal veil

Wedding day attire has changed in many ways, but one component that has withstood the test of time is the wearing of a wedding veil.

Though many brides know it is tradition to wear a bridal veil, many do not understand why. Here is a look at the history behind the veil and why it continues to be worn today.
The veil and the bouquet that a bride carries may predate the wearing of white. Although there is no definitive reason for the wearing of a veil, many surmise it has to do with ancient Greeks and Romans’ fear of evil spirits and demons. In fact, this is where many of the bridal traditions actually come from, including bridesmaids wearing similar dresses in order to serve as decoys for the bride. In an effort to frighten away or disguise the bride from evil spirits, brides-to-be were dressed in brightly colored fabrics like red and obscured by a veil. But in many cases, the veil prevented the bride from seeing well. That is why her father or another person "gave her away." He was actually escorting her down the aisle so she wouldn’t bump or trip into anything. The veil also served as a method of shielding the bride’s face from her future husband, especially in the cases of arranged marriages.
Superstition has it that it is bad luck for the groom to see the bride prior to the wedding. A veil hiding her face also ensured that the groom would not see his soon-to-be-betrothed up until the ceremony.
Eventually the meaning behind the veil transformed as weddings evolved into religious ceremonies. The veil came to symbolize modesty and obedience. In many religions it is seen as a symbol of reverence for women to cover their heads. When white wedding dresses were worn to symbolize chastity, the white veil followed suit.

Regardless of the origins, veils continue to be sported by today’s brides, who choose from a few different styles. A flyaway is a short veil that ends at the shoulders, while a sweep veil ends at the floor. Chapel and cathedral veils follow the bride at a significant length (nine and 12 feet, respectively). A blusher is a very short veil that covers just the bride’s face as she enters the ceremony. With a fingertip veil, the veil reaches the bride’s waist and brushes at her fingertips.
The wedding veils and headpieces should coordinate with the style of the gown, and many wedding attire consultants suggest choosing the gown prior to the headpiece and veil.

Several Beautiful Mother of the Bride Hairstyle

#1: Refined Extra Long Hairstyle With A Middle Part
At the age of 52 Demi Moore looks excellent and chooses beautiful classic hairstyles. Her formal downdo features light stretched out curls with a few face-framing locks being pinned at the back. The hairstyle should look maximally natural, but with some hair accessories will be more charming.

#2: Long Chic Hairstyle For Mother Of The Bride
Jennifer Lopez chooses a gorgeous hairstyle with the forehead-framing locks combed away from her face and gathered into a high pony that seamlessly blends with the remaining tresses, cascading gracefully onto her shoulders. The curls only for the ends are another individual feature of this ravishing hairstyle.

#3: Stylish Sleek Updo
There are women, like Heidi Klum, who look awesome with sleek updos. If you have a lovely face shape and seek for a secure hairstyle that you do not need to fix up throughout the day, a compact twisted knot or braided bun is a good solution. It’s also a good mother of bride hairstyle idea if you have fine hair or plan to wear the pillbox type of hat.

#4: Medium Retro Waves
If the theme of the wedding suggests vintage or retro-inspired hairstyles, the queen of burlesque Dita Von Teese has an idea to share. Retro hairstyles are in trend, and a wedding is a wonderful occasion to try on a look of your favorite heroine from the previous century. The large, sleek glamorous waves of Dita Von Teese will look awesome on medium-length locks of a monochromatic color.

#5: Medium Voluminous Hairstyle For Women Over 50
Meryl Streep is 65, but who believes? By the way, the actress is against plastic surgeries. So, what’s the secret of her irresistibility that doesn’t fade with age? We suggest that stylish mother of the bride hairstyles do not play here the last role. A good volume near the roots of fine hair can do a miracle to fine hair and turn a simple hairstyle into a festive downdo.

#6: Natural-Looking Loose Updo
Let’s keep in mind that the looks of mothers should conform to the chosen wedding style. Modern green and Boho weddings suggest natural-looking messy hairstyles, like the one we see in this picture. Cameron Diaz could play a role of a great mother of the bride, but she has just become a married woman herself!:) Congrats!

#7: Short Edgy Hairstyle
There’s an opinion that short hairstyles make a woman look younger. That’s why many ladies over 40 switch their long locks for classy chin-length bobs or sassy pixies. Lisa Rinna sticks to the same gorgeous layered hairstyle for years, and it’s one of the most popular and frequently copied short edgy hairstyles.

#8: Mother Of The Bride Hairstyle For Short Hair
Halle Berry will turn 49 this year, but it seems she is getting more and more beautiful with years! Her short hairstyle with fringe looks feminine and stylish thanks to its edgy finish. The moderate volume on the crown and definition for the angled locks is what you need to make your short hairstyle spark.

#9: Short Hairstyle For Mother Of The Bride With Formal Combed Back Locks
Sharon Stone is a sex symbol and a style icon, who has conquered the hearts of millions. Sure, we can’t pass by her elegant looks. A simple short hairstyle with volume at the roots and combed back locks is a decent alternative to an updo.

#10: Naturally-Looking Waves With Extra Shine Finish
All women have gladly welcomed the hair trend towards naturalness. Modern “spontaneous” and messy hairstyles breathe with freedom and lightness. Lively, “imperfectly” styled locks are considered chic these days. Carla Bruni’s soft waves are a good mother of groom hair idea to follow for women with medium-length hair.
